“Maybe a week?” Tommy replied, grinning as three year old Mayilia as she toddled past, giggling as another little girl with a familiar head of thick, dark curls chased her down.

“Daddy! Daddy, we play tag!!”

“I see that, babe!” he laughed, waving at Baileigh’s daughter as the toddler scurried past them.

“God, they’re so cute…girls! GIRLS! Too far, come back!...sorry, where were we?”

“How long I’m in town for Boney’s gallery opening.” He offered with a grin, cocking his head to regard Baileigh with a grin. “Wow.”

“What? You finally notice my haircut?”

He sat facing her, eyes narrowed. In five years of combat, locked in battle with the forces of darkness, he’d never expected that he would face an adversary as worthy or as relentless as the one that sat before him.

The little baby behemoth with honey-colored pigtails and her mother’s hard scowl, softened by pudgy cheeks and eyes that were still darkening to match her father’s, just like her hair.
