magic_fratboy: (days gone by - kissing zee)
"Ah! Where did I put my...Carbone Karras, I gonna tan your hide you keep your hands OFF!!!"

"OW!!! Kee-rap, Mom..."

"See? This is why I ain't cookin'." Tommy declared with a nod, shooting a smile at his father and daughter as he took a sip of his beer before bending over to pick up the sock monkey she'd just dropped. "Careful, Bunny Girl."

"Hummy, Tata." she informed him, patting her belly.

"Yeah, we know. Dinner's comin' soon."

Content to go back to making her sock monkey flap his arms, Tommy caught sight of his father's smile. Aunt Zephyr and Carbone had flown in for Thanksgiving, which his mom and dad were hosting this year. He'd heard that Channing might be by, but he wasn't sure if she was coming. Zee was flitting between helping in the kitchen and sitting with May and him, trying to do a little bit of everything. It was Mayilia's first Thanksgiving, and really their first Thanksgiving as a family.

"So, you ever gonna marry that girl, Tom Tom? Or you gonna stay engaged your whole life?"

Tommy laughed, shrugging. "Hey, we can't agree on a first dance song for the reception. I'm havin' way too much fun planning this thing, and I'm kinda glad it's gotten bigger than we expected. Zee wanting it, I mean. Besides, she's busy as shit with the way the band's blown up, and I got fuckin' TV offers coming in now..."

"If you boys are talking business, I gonna put you out the door with your wife, little brother!!"

Gregory Karras rolled his eyes, leaning back in the sofa to look at his sister. "All apologies, dearest!!"

"Spoiled man...hmph!"

Tommy just laughed, shaking his head as he set his beer down and picked up Mayilia. "C'mere, Bunny...let's go see what Mommy's doing."

NOTE: Piece takes place during Tommy's training for the building implosion, approximately three and a half weeks ago. Carbone is [livejournal.com profile] mindisthemagic and mine to use and abuse.

He had a little bit of martial arts training, and he had the power to stop his own heart, but overall Tommy knew very little, intellectually, about meditation.

Calling his Fraternity brothers and sisters didn’t help much, none of their answers or advice were the same. Too little or too much, they told him, in the dark or in the light, on the floor and in a bed or a chair. There was no consistency to be had. If he had even one common thread, one fact to latch onto he could have gone the distance but he had nothing. He was as he had been in his days as Houdini: living by his wits, scraping by on borrowed pennies and sharing ill-nourished game foraged from the wild roadsides.

He was the one who asked the question, and he alone was the one who had the answer. His brain was the key that would set him free. It was the only key he had.

So he chose a room and locked the door. He shut the lights and opened the curtains wide. The dark room, illuminated by desert sunshine, softened into pale, vibrant hues that called him to the place he knew he had to go. He left no music on, but opened a window. The sounds of the street and the natural world outside sang a soothing melody as he moved to the center of the room.

Stretching his arms out on either side, he sank down slowly and shut his eyes. The old, familiar burn came, slow and steady as the minutes passed...he kept his shoulders loose and didn't fight it. It had been years since he'd held a square horse stance for so long, but the muscles were still strong and the body remembered where to banish the pain. It still felt right, familiar.

NOTE: Ziyah is [livejournal.com profile] zee_ali and is used with some permission and great love. Carbone is [livejournal.com profile] mindisthemagic and all mine. Takes place tonight just after this.

Escape is based on this.

Follow your heart, but be quiet for a while first. Ask questions, then feel the answer. Learn to trust your heart.

==========

He didn’t expect the next breath to come, but it did…and with it, the sun came out.

Shaking his head, he sucked down a ragged gulp of air and tried to get his vision to clear as his hand went to his chest, where the picks still hung. Like the cuffs, they burned his skin when he touched them. His nose stung with the noxious scent of fear, sweat, and now burned flesh. There was no great power source or triumphant surge of energy to save him. It was just him, Fear, Despair, and a pair of handcuffs.

His strength was still fading, the Darkness sapping him dry like a leech glutting itself on blood.

You Are Fairly Normal in Love

When it comes to love, you have fairly normal ideas and expectations.

Your relationships and ideas may be a bit quirky at times...

But you see love the same way as most people do.

Why You Are Normal in Love

You are normal because you first fell in love when you were 18 or younger.

You are normal because you believe a long distance relationship can work.

Why You Aren't Normal in Love

You are abnormal because you kiss on the first date.

You are abnormal because you have been in love with two people at the same time.

For the record? Not only is the kissing thing insane, but seriously, this meme is unfair to those of us who've lived more than once. Sure, I love more than one person at the same time: I'm marrying Zee, I still love Bess, and I'll go to the end of days loving Pandora. She's the reason I'm here.

Now if you'll excuse me, I gotta go kill my cousin before the Darkness beats me to it.

“I went looking for a fight.”

“What the…Jesus, T-Bird…”

Tommy simply shrugged in response to his cousin’s exasperation, wincing as Carbone blotted the laceration on his forehead with an alcohol swab. He welcomed the lingering burn, the acid bite of sterilization beneath the skin…he was looking for pain, for something, anything to hurt him. Anything to help him ease the knot in his gut that he couldn’t let go of.

“I needed something to hurt, Bone. Something safe…something that’d hit back.”

“Getting yer ass kicked ain’t gonna help you grieve for her, man.”

“It might.”
