Alternatively, ask a character a question, any question, and they HAVE to answer completely honestly. Have to. It's the meme rule. Even if they'd normally lie, they suddenly have been hit with a truth serum of some kind and must tell the truth.

Any verse applies, just let me know.

Something like that. Every soul that's reborn has to drink from the Cup of Lethe, even gods. It wipes away memory...that's why reincarnated souls don't remember stuff, at least not right away. Human minds have to be empty to survive the fires of rebirth, otherwise the soul's torn apart. Happened to my wife, Bess.

Sort of. She didn't drink from the Cup of Lethe, so her soul didn't survive. What's left of it was reborn into my boss, Channing Vale. She's not like me, Bess ain't alive in her, but she does still have her memories and feelings.

So it's... more a case of her remembering being Bess in the past, as opposed to still being her now?

Is it a comfort, having that much? Or is it hard to know only some of her survived?
