In truth, he’d forgotten about them the second he laid eyes on her. Now, in the privacy of their borrowed bed, she’s mapping the first line of five nail marks forming a neat grid on his back. Under her touch, her unasked question, heat floods him but not with arousal.
It’s the sting of every single scar, wound, and bruise come to life in a single instant. It’s four months of emptiness and solitude converging on him in a single instant, making him relive that daily struggle for survival.

Dog knew. So did Kate.
In his heart he believes there’s an explanation, but some wounds are slow to close. They bleed, and it seeps into his vision, covering his eyes in rage so black it dims the room. Lost time rushes past him like a storm on the horizon, echoes of sorrow so deep shake him hard enough to cause him to stir. The beast of a god wonders if he is needed again, and it’s all he can do to hold him off and keep his head.
The Titan is unforgiving, but Tommy understands. He’s human enough to know what’s allowed, what’s possible. He’s weak enough to hate them both for it, but has lived enough to realize what is and isn’t possible. How easily a head could have been taken, how knowledge may have saved Ziyah from a fate worse than the one she suffered.
Knowing helps him keep his head. Understanding stills his murderous heart.
Betrayal, however, isn’t so forgiving…and so he doesn’t call. He doesn’t summon Dog and doesn’t turn to Hekate. In quiet grief for trust lost, he is certain he will never speak their names again.
They knew Zee was alive, and they said nothing. Nothing can forgive that mortal sin.

For the first night in months, he lies awake and finds his rest as his fingers map the contours of her face and body. There are wonders to be had in the simple act of mapping her face with his fingers or nuzzling her neck to feel the pulse beat strong against the skin. She sighs in her sleep as he trails his index finger down the valley between her breasts, stirs when his toes brush up her calf ticklishly.
More than once, his eyes stray to the ring on her finger, the one she won’t take off. Bruises and cuts on his body remain from where her hands dug in too tight and brushed carelessly, frantically to touch as they made love. Where the diamond found him and left its mark, he still feels the burn and relishes it. He lived with memories for too long, the reality cuts like a knife and burns with the ache in his muscles and the cuts on his skin.
He can finally rest, but the miracle of watching Zee sleep won’t let him. More than awe fills him, power whispers through every touch of skin on skin. Love reclaimed heals his broken heart, justice to serve clears his hazy memory, and faith restored rekindles the fire of magic he lost the day he lost her.

She’s on the far side of him, wrapped in concrete and steel behind a wall of glass and wood. She’s in clothes that don’t quite fit, hair hanging in eyes that haven’t seen the impossible shadows. Darkness fills them, empty and afraid, but innocence in her face tells him what the voice droning in the distance is already getting to.
“…traumatic events have caused retrograde amnesia. We don’t know if she’ll ever remember who she is or what happened, we can only hope. It’s the only way to find…”
He lets the voice fall away again as he moves towards the two way mirror separating them. She’s standing now, idly wandering around the perimeter of the room. For months, he’s been wrapped in a sense of this, the moment before he walked through the door and saw her there in concrete and steel.
