[mad muses] ralph waldo emerson quote
A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is braver five minutes longer.
Tommy didn’t have a chance against the Bringer and he knew it. He knew it beyond the waves of energy crashing over him, black and noxious, forcing his heart to cave and his spirit to bend under the pressure of complete hopelessness.
He stood in a side alley, pinned to the wall by the hand of a Bringer of Despair. Fingers of ice wrapped tightly around his throat, freezing his skin and choking off his air as he was forced to stare into the noisome void of emptiness in its face. It was a living form with breath and function, but the shape had no meaning, the face no features, and in its empty, bland, and inconceivable eyes he saw the knowledge that it was nothing, that nothing was all there was.
And though it was hopeless, though he knew he would die, he still twisted in its grip. He bucked, he writhed, and he fought.
Right up until the moment that the hand fell away and fire filled his vision.
Collapsing to the ground, he coughed and hacked, looking up to see his father standing over the Bringer with a ball of fire in his palm, waiting for the creature to make a move.
“Tom Tom?”
“Fine.” He coughed. “Go!”
Gregory Karras nodded…and as Tommy watched, his father became another man.
He barely wrinkled his suit as he lobbed a fireball at the Bringer and went on the attack, throwing punches and ducking blows Tommy didn’t know he was even aware of. Knowing his father was Fraternity wasn’t the same as seeing him fight, and as he watched him resist the energy of the Bringer, saw him spit in the face of evil quite literally…Tommy realized that he’d been born to a true hero.
When the Bringer finally gave up and vanished from sight, Tommy was back on his feet again, and certain that he had a lot of work to do before he was even half the man his father was.
As Gregory walked over and helped Tommy straighten himself out, he felt a brush against his mind, thoughts that fused with his in a clumsy and awkward fashion…but in them, he felt his father’s pride and his love.
//The real hero is the man that can hold the line until the reinforcements come, bub. I got more years, but you got more heart. Don’t you ever forget that, okay?//
Grinning, Tommy reached out and embraced his father warmly. “I got it, Dad…thanks.”
Hugging him back for a moment, Gregory finally pulled away and grinned at his son. “Come on…I left your mother in the car when I felt the Bringer. Where’s your girl?”
“Zee? Left her in the casino.” Tommy replied. “Safest place, I figure…we been waiting on you and Mom, I have no idea how to get to the venue.”
“Well, let’s go collect your mother, then, and go find your girl.” Gregory laughed, draping an arm around his son’s shoulders as the two of them started heading for the main entrance to Caesars Palace. “When Caesars Magical Empire was open, it wasn’t easy to find, and it’s even harder to locate the entrance since it went underground.”
“I still don’t get it…didn’t they tear it up to make room for Celine Dion’s theater?”
“Hell no! They just hid the joint and made it Fraternity only. And believe you me, son, the performances have only gotten better for it. Your girlfriend is in for a night she’ll never forget…”

'Well, I'm not sure how long we're in town for, but you bet your ass we'll come..' she laughed. 'Just make sure wherever you get us a table that it's close to a bathroom...'

Grinning as they caught sight of Zee in profile, he grinned and nodded. "Yeah, Ma, that's my girl."
"Oh, she's beautiful! Greg, that's going to be half of our grandbaby."
"I know, Aggie...son? Your taste in women is almost as good as mine."
Laughing as his mother smirked and blushed a little under his father's praise, Tommy led them both up to the bar and called out to Ziyah when he saw her on the phone.
"Zee! Babe! Over here!"

Sliding off her barstool carefully, Zee headed over, smiling brightly, albeit extremely nervous, for the first time introductions.

"'Sup, Sexy?" He teased gently, kissing her forehead before glancing over his shoulder as his parents came up behind him.
Facing them proudly, he draped his arm around Ziyah's shoulders and made his introdcutions. "Zee? This is Gregory and Agatha Karras, my folks. Mom? Dad? This is Ziyah Ambrogio...the woman I love."
Gregory cleared his throat with a raised eyebrow, even as Agatha elbowed him lightly with a laugh. "Son? You forgetting someone?..."
Snickering, Tommy nodded. "Right, sorry." he apologized, laying his hand lightly against Zee's belly. "And this is the little one we're calling Bunny at the moment. Bunny? Meet yer future grandparents."
Laughing, Gregory nodded in approval and extended his hand to Zee, kissing her knuckles with a broad, roguish grin. "Sweetheart, it's an honor. You're as pretty as your pictures, and the second loveliest pregnant woman I've ever seen. This lady over here was the first, sorry."
Giggling, Agatha blushed a little, making it clear where Tommy got his shyer nature from. "Greg, cut it out! Aggie Karras, it's a pleasure to meet you, Ziyah...Tommy's told us a world of wonderful things about you."
no subject
'Well Mr. Karras, I can accept that.' she nodded, beaming as Greg kissed her knuckles, than at the last minute deciding to lean in and kiss his cheek. 'It's quite the honor to finally meet you both as well,' she stepped back, grinning broadly 'And hopefully, without sounding too crass, it's a pleasure to finally see where Tommy gets his charm.'
Quickly stealing a glance at Tommy, Zee shifted to Aggie and leaned in also to kiss her cheek as well. It was one European trait that stuck with her through her whole life. she only hoped they didn't mind.
'Oh..no really?' she cringed playfully.

Gregory's reaction to her modest teasing was a wide grin and a nod. "He did, dear, and I'm believing the hype." He paused for drama, leaning over to mock whisper to Tommy. "You're marrying this girl, right?"
Laughing, Tommy blushed bright red and nodded. "Yeah, Dad, getting right on that, when we're not heading to a show, maybe?" he joked, leaning over to kiss Zee's temple. "C'mon, let's shake a leg. Where we going?"
"This way, kids." Gregory gestured, beckoning for the pair to follow him as he offered his wife his arm. "Ziyah, matia mou, you're in for a real treat. The venue you're gonna see tonight's Fraternity only, hasn't been seen by the general public since 2002...the old Magical Empire, sunk right underneath that damn theatre Celine Dion does her shtick in. Swear to God, she grates on my nerves, that woman..."

'That's another reason we came to Vegas..' she eyed Tommy teasingly. 'He has no idea yet, but I found an Angus Young to marry us..'
Waiting for a reaction, Zee couldn't help but dissolve into giggles as her attention shifted back to Greg with interest.
'Really? But I'm not Fraternity..'
no subject
"Tommy, don't even joke about that! That's not funny!"
"Aggie, relax. It's all in good fun."
"Well, still..."
"Besides, I started it."
"Yeah, well, I gave up on you a long time ago, Gregory Karras."
Tommy smirked, kissing Zee's temple. "Told you my mom was uptight...ignore 'em, they do this all the time." he reassured her with a grin.
When she asked about the club, Gregory glanced back at her. "Not to fret, Ziyah darling...neither is Tom Tom's mother. You couldn't get in alone, but as long as you got a Brother or a Sister on your arm, humans are always welcome."
no subject
'I think it's cute..' she looked up after voicing her words a little more quieter as his parents chatted. 'Reminds me of me and you.'
As they walked, Zee nodded in understanding.
'So, what can I expect to see?'
